Sports Day was a most enjoyable event as our students competed against each other and in the annual match against the teachers. This year the teachers emerged victorious, much to the disgust of our younger sixth years. Teachers also managed to secure a win over the sixth years in the new basket ball match with the sixth years. Well done Teachers who wisely did not engage in a rematch. Better luck to next year's sixth years!
TY had their graduation ceremony and headed into their summer holidays having completed a really good year. We had a very complimentary report from our TY inspection which took place during the year which again complemented and noted the enthusiasm of our students. Well done everybody. I must thank teachers and especially our TY coordinators for their professionalism and commitment to a most innovative programme which serves our students well.
Sixth year graduation was as always a wonderful occasion when we celebrated their six years in the College. The six years flew by and they are now ready to stretch their wings and explore pastures new, I and all the staff wish them well in their exams and their future lives.
The end of year events and celebrations are a fitting end to an event filled year for our students who have experienced success in so many different areas of their development, individually or as part of a team. Academic and sporting awards have been very much part of this year with students receiving merits and prizes for academic engagement on the sporting field and track Salle has had a wonderful year Well done everybody and many thanks to all involved in coaching and encouraging our students.
I would like to express my thanks to parents for their support throughout the year in all our endeavours with students from sending them to school on time and in uniform, supporting students on dark winter days and bright successful days and throughout the homework the study and the everyday routine, all the highs and lows of a positive school year.
I would like to draw attention to our honours boards which may be seen on the main corridor of the College. These to date have marked rugby captains and student of the year from this year there will be a board acknowledging students who are recognised as exhibiting the true spirit of la Salle.
Of course every student cannot be recorded here and every student makes a contribution and leaves their mark on the College. This is now and for the future remembered by the stained glass window commissioned from Bianca De Vito. This window acknowledges and marks the achievements and contribution of ALL the students of the College from 195 to the present day and beyond. It reminds us that the College motto is Recta Sapere which means to savour what is right which we interpret to students as correct judgement and the courage to follow through on that.
Finally best of luck to our examination candidates and a safe enjoyable summer holiday to students staff and their families
May God bless us all and let us remember 'We're Salle!'
