Well done to the 3rd and 5th year students who represented the College at the East Leinster Cross-Country Championships at Avondale Park in Rathdrum on Tuesday.
The Senior Team were up first with a tough 5,000m race over a 5 lap course. Patrick MacGabhann led the race from the very beginning, and in the last lap took a huge lead, making his win look easy. Paul O'Donnell ran a fantastic race, spending most of it in 4thplace, slipping down to 6th by the finish. Both boys qualified individually for the next stage of the competition, the Leinster Championships. Dylan Finlay finished in 36th place with Patrick Kearney just behind him in 38th. When the points were added up, De La Salle College were 3rd and the entire team will now race in the Leinster Championships on February 11th.
The Intermediate Team were down a runner due to a last minute injury, but Gerard MacTague, Daniel McDermott and Mark O'Leary gave very strong performances in the 4,000m race.
Athletics training is every Tuesday after school and students from all years and all abilities are welcome to attend.
Finally best of luck to Patrick MacGabhann who will is competing in Spain this weekend at the U20 European XC Club Championships for his athletics club DSD. No doubt he will do his club and school proud!
