De La Salle College 2020 Dublin and Leinsters Report
This season the Under 19A Badminton team in De La Salle College have taken the double in winning the Dublin Schools Finals recently v Blackrock College 4-2 and the Leinsters on Thursday 23rd of February in Baldoyle Badminton Centre. The boys took a clean sweep with many spectacular individual matches going to the wire throughout the competition.
Our first match at 10am was against Banagher College, Co. Offaly where we came good clear
winners with a 6-0 start. The second match against Colaiste Mhuire, Johnstown Co. Kilkenny had games 30-28, 30-29 against us but we then pulled through 4-2 to take the match on our toes working the court tactically to gain those valuable points. The third match we played our rivals Blackrock College A from the Dublin Finals but once more proved too strong taking the tie 4-2. In our final match of the day we required a clean sweep to take victory and this was focused on by the whole team returning a 6-0 against St. Mary’s of Drogheda by 4.30pm after a great sporting day DeLa Salle College Churchtown became Leinster Champions.
Conor Bradley(6th ) our captain has encouraged his team members Jakub Kowalczyk Maverick Labastilla, Evan Morton and Russel Flores through the initial league and to two great finals this year where the full team now go forward to the All Irelands.
A point of interest is that these boys all commenced as total beginners in first year and thus the story evolves through to 6th year today. We wish the team all the best for the All Irelands on 25th March 2020.
